Group Presentation (Make Assignments)

Group Presentation

You will create a presentation for the religious group you chose at the beginning of the semester. Your presentation should incorporate as many of the following items as might apply (Note: some of the topic areas below might not apply to your selected religion, so just apply as many as you can). Remember that the Final Group Presentation submission is due in the Oral Presentation module, after Lesson 8.

• Provide a brief history of the religion, its founder(s) and development, etc.
• Explain the basic religious tenets or belief system.
• Explain what you were able to learn through research about members' beliefs regarding media. How do they use media in their personal lives (for example, entertainment, etc.) and in their religious lives?
• Explain how the religion itself uses media to further its purposes or work. Use specific examples. Is there counsel from religious leaders? Campaigns, etc.? If they have a web presence, explain what you've learned in how new media is employed by the religion.
• Explain what you learned about how this religion and/or its members are portrayed in the media. This could include both news (non-fiction) and/or fictional portrayals (e.g. television, film, etc.). Find specific examples if possible.
• Be prepared to share your findings to the class during the second half of class.

Instructions

• Assign each member of your group to research some of the items listed above. You are welcome to meet together virtually using the video conferencing room.
• Turn in one Word document per group that states which group member will be covering each of the items.
• Get started on your part of the research. On October 7 you will report what you have researched and how you plan to present it.
